Denver proposes to split money from DIA development with suburbs

Denver: Denver International Airport

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock on Friday proposed creating a special district around Denver International Airport to funnel new money from development on the airport to help pay for projects in surrounding communities.

The offer comes after officials from Adams County, Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan, and representatives from Thornton, Brighton and Commerce City on May 2 sent a letter to Denver stating concerns about Denver’s plans to create a “airport city” around DIA.
